Hi All!
I have been doing a lot of research on what dog would be a great fit for my home. Right now a Doodle is at the top because of their friendliness, intelligence and their potential to shed less. Plus my boyfriend's sister has a Doodle, which I love. And, s/he must be a rescue.
I would like opinions from Doodle owners. I currently live in a city. There is a fenced-in dog park at the end of my block. There is also a long walkway along the waterfront as well. I grew up in the suburbs where our dogs and I played in our backyard. Our family dogs LOVE the backyard and spend hours just lounging in their "own space."
For this reason, I want to ask if you all feel a Doodle would be happy in a city environment, as long as there are places to exercise and play? This is my first city-dog experience so I'd love to hear opinions from other city dwellers and Doodle owners.
Thank you! Kate

Yes, Hoboken is no downtown Chicago! I'm sorry you got burned by Hoboken parking - it's pretty painful. It's almost cheaper to live here - ha! Since you know Hoboken, I can tell you I live near Elyisan Park. I thought being on the park, the dog run might be a good sub for a backyard. There is a lot of opportunity for physical activity here, for sure.
Thanks for your response. I'm still considering everyone's input, and if I feel like it's a good fit, I'll put in my application. Thanks again, Kate
Permalink Reply by Frannie on January 25, 2012 at 8:31pm I will echo a few comments and say that it does largely depend on the dog. I got Callie at Dekalb Animal, a local high kill shelter. I live in town, in a townhouse with no yard. We exclusively leash-walk and there is a dog park in our community (which is wonderful). Callie loves where we live, has a billion doggie and human friends in the "hood", and in general has thrived in the nearly three years since we found each other. Conversely, I have a foster doodle, Luna, who is adorable, and the sweetest little doodle girl but is terrified of every noise that happens and even after more than two months with me has days where walking out the door into a place where she might encounter the sounds of people or running cars are just about too much for her to bear. She's made a lot of progress (example - she's rarely scared to go on a walk at night now) but I would definitely not plunk her down in another urban environment. The only upside for Luna...lots of great smells, and she loves other dogs.
