"How callous and cruel of the sham (and shameful) "rescue" organization. And blessings upon blessings to you all at DRC and the mere stroke of luck and a good heart of the veterinarian. There is so much animal abuse and neglect already…"
"OMD!!! I love these pics! Leah looks so happy!! The picture of the three of you says it all! I miss her like CRAZY, but she wasn't mine -- I was just taking care of her for you, Carol and Ian! She knew all along that the…"
We are so thrilled to have beautiful, sweet Leah as the newest member of our family and our very first Doodle-galore!!!! She is absolutely the gentlest, sweetest, smartest...well, you know, the accolades could go on forever. She is lying at my feet right now as I set up our Doodle blog. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for being there, for rescuing this beautiful animal, for allowing us the chance to give her a loving and safe home, and for all your support. And a special thank you to Leah's…See More
We're hoping to have a rescue dog join our family. I work at home and we have a 10-year-old son. I'm hoping he has the chance to grow up with a dear companion during his school years. Of course...I'm really looking forward to a sweet friend at home with me, too! Our Black Lab of 14-1/2 yrs and our other shelter puppy of 15 yrs both died in the past two years, and we're just now ready to bring home a love muffin.
Tell us about your dog(s) and/or other pets that you have:
We've never had a doodle, but I've looked at them for awhile now. Our neighbor has one who is just a hoot! And adorable, sweet. We've had such good fortune with many rescue, shelter and stray animals over the years that came into our lives. I'm hoping we have that chance again with one of the magnificent Doodles I've seen on the Collective's website.
Have you read our adoption policies?
We've been looking in Texas for a Doodle but haven't had the chance to meet one yet. But we're so eager. We've always liked larger dogs for some reason. One that ride in the car sitting up like a person in the seat (with a seat belt), camp with you, hang out by the fireplace...you know what I mean. I love the intelligence and coat of the poodles and that amazing personality when a Doodle is the outcome. We're really big on the personality factor though, rather than any particular look. I love the variety that comes from "mixes."
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
Only on our own. Finding homes for strays, spaying feral cats in the woods behind our old house, etc. Our friends are also made up of animal lovers: a friend is in charge of animal rescue for our local Red Cross, another friend's grandparents actually started the first animal shelter in Austin. I've petitioned in the past to eliminate kill shelters and regularly support our local shelters and humane society.
Welcome to DRC! You are in a great place to find the dood of your dreams! Sadly, there are so many dogs coming into rescue now, and nearly all will make wonderful pets. Smaller ones seem harder to come by, so it is nice that you hope for a big cuddlebug! Be sure to turn in your DRC application RIGHT AWAY, as they are reviewed often for dogs that may not even be posted yet if the applicant is going to make a stellar home. You might also consider getting involved as fostering is extreemly rewarding. And sometimes you end up being a foster "failure" like many of us, adopting our foster buddies because we realize that they are already right where they belong.
