Zeke's First Day

"Thank you Deborah for posting this.  While this has been a bittersweet transition time having Oscar (Zeke) go he is exactly where he is supposed to be:o)  I know that many of the foster moms and dads on this site would agree with me. …"

Zeke living large

Zeke's (formerly Oscar's) first day in his forever home. He is opening up to us - but misses his foster family very much. When he came home last night he backed away from any touch, but has made much progress today. He jumped up for a pet of his own…

Profile Information

Where are you located?
Morehead City, NC
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am married with two almost grown children. My youngest daughter will be going off to college next year. Both my husband and I are self employed, and home bodies.
Tell us about your doodle(s) and/or other pets that you have:
I just lost my Brewster, a five year old labradoodle suddenly to cancer. I also have a rescued minipin/basenji mix named Layla that is about 1-1/2 years old. We rescued her in August, she didn't know her name, or a single command, and was a nervous wreck. Since then, she now is fully house trained, walks, sits, lays down, dances, stays, and is calming down dramatically. She misses having a brother, though.
Where did you get your doodle(s) and/or why you have chosen a doodle
I rescued my origianal doodle from a first time "breeder" when he was 5 months old, and she wanted to be rid of him. He had never been groomed, had horrible ear infections, was covered in fleas, and could not even manage to climb a flight of stairs. Brewster was a good, good boy, and we miss him.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Tell us a bit as to why you are here:
I have been very involved with my children's lives with athletic and scholastic, volunteer work, etc. I have served on every school advisory board that they have attended, and ran most of every fund raiser there was. Although I am not looking forward to next fall, when Stephanie leaves, I know I wil have a lot more time. I am hoping to help out locally with Encore Pets, the organization that helped me to rescue Layla, my current dog.

Our Simon:

We have an English Springer Spaniel who is 8 and from a back yard breeder.  He has  orthopedic problems, allergies, anxiety - Man! Never again with the back yard breeder! He is the sweetest dog ever but oh so hyper and a people shadow.  We lost our lab mix a year and a half ago to cancer.  He began limping, got a diagnosis and passed away in the space of 2 weeks.  He was 12 and we thought we had many good years left with him.  He was our pack leader and had raised all of the family's dogs to get along. He looked a lot like King in your pictures.

My doodles are both 3 1/2. We got Ned at 3 1/2 months from a reputable breeder - this was mostly luck on our part because we knew some about puppy mills but not how much they trick you on the internet.  Boy have we learned a lot since then!!!

We found Clancy in March of 2010 at a fund raiser for our local pet adoption center.  He was given March 17, 2008 as his birth date which is also Ned's birth date  so they share a birthday.  Luckily, Clancy had been rescued from a local kill shelter by the pet adoption center. He was either abandoned in a back yard and turned in by a neighbor, or on the streets - not sure which.  He had been chipped but the address was an empty house.

I am thrilled for you!!!!  Oscar won't be Brewster, but I think he will worm his way into your heart quickly.  He has had such a sad life so far and I think you will provide him with the loving attention and home that he will thrive in.

Congrats!  Which dog is Oscar?  I didn't see him listed on the available doodles on the first page.  Either way, I am excited for you.

My Ollie's name was Oscar when we adopted him this summer.

I am so sorry about Brewster. I lost a dog to cancer about 1 1/2 years ago - it can be so sudden. Be sure to fill out an application (form at the top of the page), click on the Doodles in Need section, check Petfinder (putting in all zip codes within driving distance), and google in shelters and humane societies within your driving range. Check back often.
