Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am married with no children, unless you count my pets.... I am a housewife and we just lost our Min. Schnauzer Sept 2,2011...... he(Hunter) died in my arms on the way to an ER VET on a camping trip to Conroe.... so I am heartbroken and we are looking for another dog to rescue. We had a standard poodle before but she had to be put down due to mouth cancer. We are looking for a poodle mix (labradoodle) that doesn't shed much.
Tell us about your doodle(s) and/or other pets that you have:
We have 3 cats who have been around dogs all their lives.. two are 14 yrs old and one we aren't sure as he was a stray we took with us when we moved from the Houston area and he is now and indoor cat only. Have always had dogs in my life... 3 greyhounds(adopted), 1 collie mix(adopted) then Hunter and Misty.... they were both10 1/2.
Where did you get your doodle(s) and/or why you have chosen a doodle
because they don't shed much (we used to have a rhodesian ridgeback and his hair was terrible to get out of anything. And Misty our standard poodle was a LOVE...
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Tell us a bit as to why you are here:
not involved now..... just looking for a new Love for our empty home

Hi Deborah,

I am taking some time away from DRC responsibilities to attend to personal things. I have forwarded your note to our VP and the TX director.

I always use the inc.org at the end of the email address. And no "s" after adoption.

Hi Deborah,

We have received an overwhelming response to Dallas' listing. Our TX director is reviewing applications along with the foster mom, and will be contaqcting those applicants who are the best match for Dallas. All of this goes through our rescue email, not here on the website, so I don't have specific information on hand. Questions about application status need to be addressed through the rescue email: adoption@doodlerescuecollective

Adopting a dog requires a lot of patience. It's understandable to be anxious, but our concern has to be that the dog gets placed in the home which is the best fit for that individual dog, and where he has the best chance of succeeding. That takes time.

ARGH! My computer froze right after I wrote a nice long post! This is a new computer too!!!!! What I said was that I don't think doodles are any more prone to disease than other dogs as a group. They could inherit the tendency to diseases their parent breeds genetically are prone to. You can google that by breed. My doodles are quite healthy - my Springer is my dog that has 'things.'  Some doodles are prone to ear problems (floppy eared dogs can be). Some have tummy problems or contact allergies and some have serious problems - it is dog specific. Doodles, as a group tend to be higher energy dogs (again mine aren't but my Springer is), smart, trainable. They are definitely not leave-in-the-backyard-and-throw-a-bone to  once in a while dogs.  They want to bond with their owners and be with them which makes them more a house dog that needs exercise.  That exercise can be playing in the backyard, walks, agility, whatever.  Some people even train them to hunt! I will tell you that a trait that MANY doodles have is ball obsession.  They LOVE to fetch and would chase a ball as long as your arm will hold out.  One of my doodles thinks, "if you are going to throw the ball away, then you can run after it!" and my other likes to chase a ball if you throw it, but is not obsessed with fetching.  Does this help?

I am so sorry that it happened that way. It is even more tragic when you are trying to get them medical help but just can't get there soon enough.  It probably wouldn't have  changed the outcome, but it just makes it harder.  My dogs happen to be males, but I have owned females too.  One of my doodles, Ned, is from a reputable breeder and my other one is a rescue.  We also have a Springer Spaniel from a backyard breeder (we didn't know any better then).  The reason I suggest that you check Petfinder by zip codes of all the areas around you you would drive to and google the shelters as far away as you would travel to is because I found my rescue in an odd way.  He was at a shelter fundraiser and only listed at the shelter and not on Petfinder.  You have to check every day because doodles are popular.  You need to check under poodle, poodle-mix, labradoodle, goldendoodle, terrier mix, and any other designation you can think of.  Doodles are often mis-identified at shelters.

Good luck; I hope you can fill the void with a new dog very soon.
