Believe it or not, I have been a proud member of Doodle Kisses for about 15 months and have never started a discussion or written a blog. Sure, I have added comments to several hundred pictures and to numerous discussions and blogs, but I guess you can call me more of a "lurker" than a "contributor" to the website. Most people on DK know so much more about training and food and all other things "doodley" so I have taken a backseat and have read and learned and just enjoyed being a part of…

We cannot think of changing her name. She made the ride back to Austin beautifully and really seemed to enjoy herself. I was in the back seat with her the whole way giving lots of tummy rubs and getting plenty of kisses. And she was terrific upon her arrival here. She jumped out of the truck and immediately began to explore. She perused the front yard and the downstairs. The only thing she seemed unsure about were these unusually large squirrels (a/k/a kitties). As I type, she's lying at (or on) my feet and two kitties are sound asleep in their beds around her. Only one kitty, Precious, seems intent on letting Leah know that Precious will not be relegated tot he bottom of the pecking order. A couple of hisses, and Leah stays clear of her. They'll settle in soon, I'm sure. The other kitties seem to have adopted her already. Curious more than anything. They are used to dogs, but Leah is not used to kitties. And our son, Ian, is absolutely thrilled. In fact, Ian was the first to get Leah to eat this morning by feeding her out of his hand while sitting on the floor. I think Leah was too excited to eat last night. We've explored the backyard this morning, and she is quite comfortable. It has been constant tail wagging, tummy rubs and kisses. Guess I'll get used to not going to the restroom by myself for awhile. LOL.
Doris -- Thank you so much for loving this dog so much, being a part of her rescue, and for giving us a chance to make her a part of our family. I know you must miss her because I cannot imagine giving her up even this early in our relationship. She is a beautiful, kind and loving soul. What a wonderful gift. Rest assured that Leah will have a caring and faithful home that will do everything to make sure Leah knows she is loved, loved, loved. Ian is so attached already. I'll be sending you some pictures and posting some more onto my Doodle blog.
Thank you, again, Doris. What a brave and loving thing you have done.

Tina said… Doris, it takes a week or two before most fosters start to relax and sometimes longer. Leah is just nervous and will start coming out of her shell in no time. Clover was my first doodle foster and acted very much like the way you describe Leah. Clover started to play with our dogs by the end of the 2nd week. Miley is my fourth foster for DRC and the most challenging so far. Miley is my first foster that has not been able to warm up to my DD Lexi. Up until Miley, all the fosters fell in love with Lexi fairly quickly and one of them had been scared of kids. Once Leah discovers she is safe watch out the fun will begin. From my experience it is a good type of fun and usually involves lots of doodle wrestling. It has been very enjoyable watching the fosters come out of their shells and start playing. You're doing a fantastic job.
