We had record rainstorms here in the Chicago area over the weekend. 7 or 8 inches fell in one 24 period, most of it Friday night. We broke current records by more than double.I just read this article…Continue

Six years ago tonight, my mom adopted me! She came to the shelter where I was staying and took me home with her, and I've been here ever since!
It took her three days to decide to adopt me. The first day she met me, she wasn't sure she…

I don't get it.
We have some wonderful, adorable dogs who have been with us in foster care for weeks, and nobody is applying for them or even inquiring about them. Sweet, adorable adult dogs who are already housebroken and are past the chewing, nipping, sock-eating crazy puppy stage. (You know that stage between 6 and 12 months when the people who got puppies without having a clue what that entails in terms of time, work, commitment, etc. give them up to rescues?)
Day after…

Pamela Woodman said… Thank you for the info. Unfortunately driving to OH from Alberta is a bit too far. I will certainly keep watching to see if one becomes available closer to here. I do appreciate your stringent rules in order to provide the best care for these wonderful dogs.

Yes, I can see that, while some of his coat is wavy and maybe a little fluffy in a very un-Dobe way, it's otherwise hard to identify poodliness. I'd also considered that he's not the doodle type in his looks, and therefore lacks that particular kind of appeal that the people who frequent or visit this site are looking for.
AND it was only after I wrote that I saw the regional listings here, and his Petfinder posting is already visible via your site.
Oh well, next time I find myself getting carried away about the plight of a dog, I'll look before I leap.

thanks for the info. I saw on the application about transporting out of state and
misunderstood. I'm so sorry that I wouldn't be able to drive to Florida for Rudy since I'm alone. This is very disappointing but I'll keep checking out the rescues
thanks again, chris coelho.

Debbie Meyer said… That is disappointing about your urban rules and kid's age rule. Our 7 year old was 3 when we got Nugget and he named her Chicken Nugget French fry - things he knew were golden. She does great in our urban setting. I'll look elsewhere.

In response to your message:
Oh my goodness, that is not my only motivation for adopting! I love animals and have been looking for a dog that would also be a good fit for our family. If it works out that the dog would be a member of our family and a member of my work, so be it. If it isn't meant to be that way, that would be okay too. I am sorry that I may have given you that impression.
Andrea Michelle Haddon said… Thank you Karen and Jack for refreshing my memory. I couldn't remember the term, but I knew that 3 out of the 4 generations were poodles!
