"Hi Karla, the very first step to adopting is to submit an application, even if there is not currently a dog available who might be a good match for you. If you wait until you see a suitable dog to apply, you will probably be too late. Since we get…"

Profile Information

Where are you located?
Wichita Falls, TX
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I'm a stay at home wife, mother, and grandmother whose children have finally all moved out. My husband's job keeps him away from home all but 2-3 days every other week. Our family has always had dogs and cats, sometimes at the same time. When my daughter and grandson moved out the pitbull that we raised from a puppy went with them bc both my grandson & daughter were so attached to her. I have plenty of time to give to another dog that would be a member of the family as all our animals have been since I was a child myself. I'm looking to provide a dog a home where he/she would live inside and and would be a companion and a new family member.
Tell us about your dog(s) and/or other pets that you have:
I currently have no other dogs, I have a 14 year old cat that has been raised around dogs and thinks she is a dog. She is more elderly now and doesn't want to play with any dogs anymore but she has never been uncomfortable around them.
If you are looking to adopt a doodle, why have you chosen this mix?
My eldest daughter has a labradoodle and her son, my grandson has s allergies but has had no problems with their labradoodle. She lives in Tennessee but does come to visit and it's always been difficult for my grandson to be around any of my animals I had prior to my other daughter moving and taking our pitbull, Abby. I also travel to Tennessee and would love to be able to bring my dog with me on my visits, even though I know that they are not always hypoallergenic my grandson does well around the doodle. I visit about 3 times per year.
Have you read our adoption policies?
Yes
Are you aware that many doodles are not allergy friendly and that many of them do shed?
Yes
Are you aware that we do not adopt to homes with children under 10, and that we do not adopt dogs for service work?
Yes
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I have been a foster for dogs at our local humane shelter in Wichita Falls and loved it even though it was hard seeing the dogs go when they were adopted. I stay in touch with the ones we fostered just to check on them and bc it's hard not to bond with the dogs once they have lived with me

Hi,
If allergies are a concern, you need to be aware that there is truly not a hypoallergenic dog breed, however 'non-shedding' dogs tend to be more allergy friendly. Here is a link to the most allergy friendly breeds: http://www.justdogbreeds.com/low-shedding-dog-breeds.html
The problem is that as mixed breed dogs, every Goldendoodle or Labradoodle is different, so the fact that one does or doesn't affect allergies doesn't mean that another one will affect in the same way. The protein that causes dog allergies is called KNF1, and it's present in varying amounts in individual dogs. With mixed breeds, even within the same litter, you can have wide variations, and there is no way to know that until the dog has his adult coat. http://doodlerescue.org/forum/topics/the-truth-about-dog-allergies-and-doodles
Here is an article about determining allergy levels with a particular doodle. http://www.doodletrust.com/education/doodle-alergy-myth No one should make a guarantee that a doodle is or will be hypoallergenic - this is marketing hype. If you are still interested in adopting a doodle (that may or may not be allergy friendly) be sure to read our DRC ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. http://doodlerescue.org/notes/DRC_ADOPTION_POLICIES_AND_PROCEDURES NOTE: You MUST have had a dog as an ADULT with VET RECORDS for that dog in YOUR own name.
Welcome 2017
