How does a local group define itself as a Rescue and then list 20 or more dogs?

I couldn't help but notice as I scrolled through PetFinder for my local area that there are "rescue" groups posting anywhere from 30 to over 100 dogs!  Local groups! Not National like we are, but…Continue

Are there lists of "Kill Shelters"

Is there any listing of "kill shelters" (especially in Indiana) and any way we can help to monitor them for Doodles?

Pippin - what a difference a week makes!

Posted on March 12, 2011 at 8:36am 9 Comments

Pippin is a puppy after all!  He's playing tug with Mater, chewing on a few too many things (we bought more Bitter Apple) and paying with balls and toys.  He even discovered that the duck honks!  He's blooming and cuter than ever!  As I write this he's playing by himself bouncing and catching a tennis ball in the family room, happy as can be.  I can't get over what a great dog he is!  Perpetually smiling and happy, friendly with everyone and every animal he meets.  He's just full of…

Pippin

We have decided that Pip is a mini Goldendoodle.  He's nearly identical to one of Mater's friends, Sadie, as well as Allyson't Peri.  Pippin went with us to Mater's obediance class last night and was so good!  He was curious and friendly with everyone and every dog.  He loved the kids that sat near us.  No fear at all!  However, he doesn't seem to have any training other than to "SIT" for a treat.  He walks well on a leash, but doesn't heel.  He does't pull either though, so that's good.  He…

Kathy, You have the cutest family of doodles.   Yes, we're still looking.  My husband retired a few months ago & there was so much to do & sign up for, we stopped for awhile.  It's not easy trying to find a smaller lab or golden doodle as  we've always has a smaller dog.   If you happen to hear of one, please let me know.   You seem to have a knack for that...... Good luck to you & your family...

Kathy thanks for thinking of us and Ember.  Yes, we have decided to add her to our family.  Her new family (dogs and all) are excited to get her home.  We will make the drive next weekend (10.5hrs each way UGH).  I'm glad her foster Mom said she doesn't mind the car!  Wish us luck!  I like to have 2 dogs about the same age so they can play and "grow old" so to speak together.  Fozzie is 1 so Ember will be a great addition.  I think my 9 yr old golden will be happy too.  Fozzie will have someone else to pester now LOL.

Hi, Kathy. Thanks for the warm welcome and the great advice! I did turn in my application right away. I fell in love with Peaches on the adoptable pages and then kept on looking at all those other gorgeous, loving and needing pups. I must say, I not only fell in love with Peaches -- I may have just fallen in love with Doodles! I am up in Fort Worth right now tending to my mother's house, saw Peaches' posting and had bizarre fantasy of driving home with her to delight my family. I even picked up a dog seatbelt harness so I'd be ready. What a hoot! Before we even saw your website, we had been talking as a family about fostering pups. I welcome all your advice and...btw...LOVE your puppy pics. Take good care.

Crazy is right!  I talked to a couple of people I met while Apollo was being trained for field work.  I just got an email and it looks very promising for all of them.  Since it is Labor Day weekend and the family wants to surrender on Sunday (of all days).  If anything it would be an overnight or two while they wait to be picked up by fosters.

Kathy, thank you for such a nice compliment, it means alot.  I think I may be going totally crazy too.  Apollo's breeders apparently committed murder/suicide at the end of July.  Another rescue called me this morning to see if I could take in a couple of his relatives.  The kids are willing to surrender them to the rescue if they can take them.  Otherwise they are planning on giving them to a BYB.  Argh!

Hi Kathy, thank you so much for thinking of me.   Princess is just adorable.  I did send an email to the organization about her.  My husband retired & we're taking the grandkids to Disney.   Our first VA in a few years & something tells me we'll need another one "without the kids"  when we come back. Ha! Ha!
