Profile Information

Where are you located?
Chattanooga, TN
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am 63 years old and a semi-retired teacher working part-time as a tutor about 8 hours a week. My husband (67) is still full-time employed but will probably retire in the next two years. We are emptynesters with two adult daughters. One lives in CA and the other abroad now in Harare, Zimbabwe. We have three grandchildren (6, 4, almost 2).
We have always had more than one dog in our family. We now have only one which is the way I wanted it. Before I retired I had rarely walked our dogs, so I wanted to have only one to spend a lot of time with. Now we believe we are ready to have two in the family. We LOVE doodles!
Tell us about your doodle(s) and/or other pets that you have:
We have a 3-yr-old Labradoodle, Webster. He is a therapy dog with a TDI certificate. We go to schools where he is a Reading Dog as well as helping kids who have learning and/or behavior difficulties.
He tends to lie around the house when we aren't 'working' in schools, walking, or going to the no-leash dog park. I sometimes take him to a nearby doggie day care which he loves. We used to take him more often until he started digesting the large rocks.
Where did you get your doodle(s) and/or why you have chosen a doodle
We got our doodle from a couple who owned a male Standard poodle and several labs the husband used as a hunting dog. Their daughter accidentally let the female in the fenced area where the male was.
We chose a doodle b/c we have had two labs and a Lab/Bouvier mix. I saw a Labradoodle while I was visiting my daughter in the Bay Area several years ago and fell in love with the breed. When our last Lab died, the following weekend (actually exactly 3 years from this Labor Day weekend), I saw the ad in the paper. We drove down to Bridgeport, AL, and picked him that day.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Tell us a bit as to why you are here:
No, we're not actually involved in Rescue although we belong to a local group Dog Friendly Chattanooga, and many of the members who go on walks with us are. I found DRC through the DoodleKisses site.
