How can I help Doodles in local shelters?

Although we just adopted a second dog, and have no plans for any more, I still can't help looking on Petfinder for poodle-mixes in need of homes. On occasion I will find one or two that are in the…Continue

I am wondering if anyone has transported their dog across the country by any means other than in the cargo hold of a passenger plane. I know there are transport companies, wondering if anyone would…Continue

I WANT TO HELP more! Every day I look at those doodle faces, knowing how many need homes and special care. I am frustrated there isn't more I can do to help. Then I thought of an idea....The biggest…Continue

Shaggy dog

It is nearly time for Shadow to get his first proper haircut. His fur is much different than our Ginger's. The top of his head is not poofy, the heavier hair is curly and falls down over his eyes if not trimmed, and I even found dreadlocks in his tail... Not fun to try to comb those out but despite the challenge he loves the attention. I just can't get him to stand up while brushing/trimming so one side gets done, and the other remains shaggy. He also has a habit of "chewing" some of his hair…See More

It has been some time since I posted on this blog, nothing too remarkable to mention. Shadow, as you can see on the left, is relaxing so well in our home, and Ginger keeps a close eye on him though tries to seem aloof. We have met other doodle owners in our area after I organized several doodle romps in local parks. It is working…See More

Five Years Ago....

My husband drove for hours and hours to Georgia to pick up our new puppy (just 7 weeks old!), because he couldn't wait for one to be available in Florida. I was against the idea from the start after losing our 18 year old mutt years before, but I was outvoted. By the time he got back home, puppy (no name yet) was sick from the car ride, and afraid to walk on our wood floors. It took us a week to figure out that Ginger, our first thought, was the best name for her. She grew up so fast I don't…See More

Palm Harbor FL
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
we now have 2 doodles!
Tell us about your doodle(s) and/or other pets that you have:
Ginger is a F1 golden doodle we got from a breeder. wonderful, smart dog. Five years later, we found Shadow, a 5 year old black golden doodle. Ginger seemed immediately comfortable with him, and he needed us. They are like brother/sister after just a short time. We also have a cat who is a bit nervous around dogs and strangers, but she has gotten used to the doods.
Where did you get your doodle(s) and/or why you have chosen a doodle
breeder near Atlanta GA. My husband decided on a doodle, reasons unknown to me. We got Shadow from a foster home after he had been neglected by his original owners.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Tell us a bit as to why you are here:
I fostered one doodle, but my family had a hard time parting with him, so I had to stop. Now that we have adopted a second dog, I think our house is "full" now (other than the occasional pet sitting for neighbors). I donate to DRC and the Humane Society.

It sounds like you were meant to have Shadow, and Shadow and Ginger were meant to be together!  Ned and Clancy share the same birthdate - how odd is that? We got Clancy at age two!  Uhhh - Ned gets into the paper trash - and will go for anything that is paper-based and used.  Really nasty. I have made many comments on doodlekisses about how we have stylish (joke) wastebaskets perched stylishly on top of other  furniture!  We bought the little metal cans with foot lid openers for all the bathrooms and the laundry room.  Our kitchen trash is in the pantry.  The computer room trash is uninteresting plain paper and so left alone.  Our bedroom wastebasket sits on top of our shredder which used to be behind the crate, so is mostly forgotten (plus I am really cautious about what I put into it.

At least they don't eat poop which is what my DIL's female whippet does so we have to whisk it away as soon as anyone goes - what a pain when she visits.

Sounds like a match made in heaven!  Shadow may have to transfer to Hagrid.  My mom named a kitty she found Hop-along Cassidy but his named evolved into Killer - I don't even know how it happened because there was not reason for it.  I will be patient about those pictures because I am sure they will be worth the wait.  He just sounds like a gentle giant.  Do you know if he is a labradoodle, goldendoodle or something else?

Good Morning Susan and Welcome!!!!!

I am thrilled that you are considering fostering a doodle dog in need. Florida is one of those states that we are in true need of good foster homes!!

If you click on the heading at the top of your page VOLUNTEER, read the info under Before You Foster. The info is incredibly helpful - the good, the bad and the incredible! If after you read it, you have more questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and email me. I will 'friend' you so you can email me directly through our site. Please don't hesitate to ask anything. After you read it and you still want to foster, please complete the Foster Application.

'Pulling from a shelter' means that we have contacted the shelter, they have 'tagged' the doodle for the DRC and you would go and pick him/her up.

Thank you so much for considering to foster a doodle!

Adrianne
