Adding a second dog to your family can be a very happy, exciting time. It can also be a time of stress, anxiety, doubt, and regret. Things don’t always go as planned….actually, things RARELY go as…Continue

As a child, there was nothing quite as exciting as being handed a wrapped present. Christmas or Birthday, it didn’t matter. The gift was for you and there was something special inside. You couldn’t open that box…

I wish I could tell you how my life started. Whether it was in a cramped cage in a puppy mill or whether my life had a happier beginning.
I wish I could tell you the story behind why I ended up for adoption, but…

Last week I decided to give the doodles some play time with other dogs and took them to doggie daycare for the while I was at work. As a puppy, Cubbie was always the life of the party there and spent his days running back and forth across the…

For 2 years my DH and I had been proud owners of a mini labradoodle named Cubbie, then I started to get the “itch” to add another doodle to the family. I had always wanted to adopt a dog and was thrilled when I came…

Mary McDonnell said… Hi Amy,
Thanks for reaching out and offering your help. I do have a questions for you. It says in the adoption policies that DRC does not typically adopt out a dog to families with Children under 12. We have a 7 year old son who absolutely adores all animals and claims he will be a zoo keeper when he grows up. Can you tell me if there is any chance the DRC will work with us? Thanks for your time, Mary

ann elizabeth wood said… Amy, you are so helpful, esp. your experience as a therapist, also. I am still very interested in a DRC dog, but perhaps I should expand my search. I am so impressed with this organization and the obvious care and concern that goes into everyone's comments. Ann

ann elizabeth wood said… Hi, Amy. this is Ann Wood (Elizabeth is my middle name!). I really appreciate your feedback and would love to talk with you. My dilemma is in applying for a dog online in that I would not be able to screen for the very qualities that might prevent some doodles from being appropriate for my therapy practice. Perhaps we could talk? My phone # is (512)653-5243. Thanks! Ann
Kathy Winkler said… Hi Amy, Thank you so much for commenting on my "welcome" status. We only waited a little more than 3 months before getting Teddy is main "squeeze," Andy. Teddy is white/cream Goldendoodle and is almost 80 lbs. Andy, is black with a little white down his chest, and is a 50 lb. Labradoodle. They are now best friends. Teddy is always in charge though and teaches the little man a few things that he didn't get for the past short 2 years he has been on this earth. The amazing thing, is that we understand Teddy's story, but not Andy's. Giving up Teddy from his previous owners was really an act of selflishness (I know I couldn't have done it). It saddens me, and in fact, breaks my heart, that Andy is an incredible little dog, who has been out now 3 times. There is nothing in the world wrong with this little man except that he is exceptional smart and you have to listen. In fact, he is amazing. I'm not so sure that I can keep my hands down (like in class) to keep from adopting another one. We have adopted many rescues over the past almost 30 years, and "Doodles" are truly amazing. We loved all our dogs passionately, and grieved with them over people's cruelty and stupidity. Our biggest heartbreak is not being able to save them all.

Denise Trionfreo said… Thank you for your welcome! Since this whole rescue thing through a support group is very new to me I am just thrilled that I am becoming a partner in such a group! Thanks again! Denise...as I embark upon yet another journey!!!
