Day three with Barley
Yesterday turned into a fun day playing rough and tumble games with new (and bigger) buddy down the street. So far we haven't met any dogs (or people) that Barley doesn't like. We are working on "no biting" when playing with Ginger, and have had a couple of time outs. It seems to help when I get Gin to lie down, he will lie down next to her (sometimes).
Our little boy is still having digestive issues, and now that the holiday weekend is over, I took him to the vet. Our first car ride…

Chance and His Forever Family
Yesterday was a red letter day in Chance's life. He was Adopted!!! The Luten family in Elkmont, Alabama met Chance and made him theirs. The Lutens have a chocolate Chesapeake Bay Retreiver named Max who is as big as Chance but heavier. They had applied for Chance back in Januarywhen he was first with the…

Day two with Barley
Last night didn't go quite as smoothly. Barley has had diarrhea, and unfortunately he awoke very early, like 5 a.m. and ran into my room for help, but not in time to meet his urgent need to go outside. After a visit outside and an unpleasant cleanup job inside (and lots of air freshener), everyone was able to settle in again for a little more sleep.
Ginger is increasingly impatient with his…

A doodle romp
See my two doodles romping and playing! In trying to identify the perfect forever family for Chloe my foster doodle, I wanted to ensure that she have a new brother or sister who will play with her. This is what 2 doodles look like who live, love and play together!

I don't get it either.....
Today, I went to look at 7 year old doodle at the open door shelter. ( That sounds great, but you know what's that mean....) When I read the intake paper work, they ( Owner ) had whole a lot of wonderful things to say about him.
1) House broken
2) Knows some commands like sit, down, come, etc...
3) lived with 4 elementary age children and great with kids
4) Ignores cats, which is good
5) Plays with neighbor's dog, freinds' dogs, etc...
6) Invisible…

Off My Chest
I don't get it.
We have some wonderful, adorable dogs who have been with us in foster care for weeks, and nobody is applying for them or even inquiring about them. Sweet, adorable adult dogs who are already housebroken and are past the chewing, nipping, sock-eating crazy puppy stage. (You know that stage between 6 and 12 months when the people who got puppies without having a clue what that entails in terms of time, work, commitment, etc. give them up to rescues?)
Day after…

Update on Chelsea's New Family
Chelsea is traveling to Washington with Susan and Howard to meet her big brother Gauge. They were greeted at the front door this morning by Chelsea her tail was wagging in all directions. Even though it was the first time they met, you could see how much they already loved Chelsea. After visiting a while and doing paperwork it was time for Chelsea to start her new journey in life. I thought it would be sad to see her leave. But when Chelsea and Susan walked out the front door they both…

I check everyday on this little one, hoping she finds a home. I think her and Myla could be twins except Myla is a goldendoodle the teeth are even similar! I keep telling my husband that If I'm not home, I drove to Texas to get Maya! She looks so sweet. So at least she is PENDING now and I hope she can go to a good family… Continue

The Importance of a Single Word
So Yankee Doodle has been with his new family about 10 days now. Yankee's new mom, Wanda, and I are friends on facebook and I've greatly enjoyed reading her posts about Yankee, seeing the pictures, and emailing back and forth about various things (I love keeping up with my fosters like that!). This morning Wanda posted a statement that has just stayed with me all day, and who but my beloved DRC family could understand why this resonated so strongly with me!

Meet Elmo's New Family!
Tom and Carol Horner along with their two beautiful babies, Auggie and Oliver welcomed Elmo into their home recently. Carol has been kind enough to send me several emails along with photos to keep me informed on Elmo's progress. I am happy to report that Elmo is doing wonderfully and is charming everyone!! He has settled in nicely and gets along well with his new brothers, Ollie and Auggie. At his first visit to their Vet's office Carol wrote that Elmo charmed everyone there...clients…

I got the message a few days ago that there was a doodle that needed rescuing from a shelter close to me, so of course, my only answer could be when, where? Oh the emotions running through my mind with this being my first rescue and foster! What joy! What fun! Than I went to the petfinder sight and the only thing they said about him was he does not like windshield wipers! What did I get myself in for! We arrived at the shelter, got the paper work done and am still wondering about this 77…

Having lost our beloved Wheaten, Duffy, recently to PLE, a horrible disease, our family was feeling a big void. I'd always fostered while we had Duffy, so we figured - why not continue to do so until we are ready again for another forever doggie addition! So, on Mother's Day my gift was fostering sweet Sonny, the beautiful, graceful (he prances- literally!) 11 month old 'puppy' from a life in which he seemingly spent 24/7 in a crate. He didn't seem to know how to 'play', didn't know…
