Do You Know About PIJAC?

Here's a group that everybody involved in rescue and the fight against puppy mills needs to be familiar with: PIJAC : "Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council"

http://www.pijac.org/

These are the guys who lobby on behalf of the brokers and pet stores, and fight all the laws we'd like to see passed. You will particularly love their horror at the legislation animal rights groups are trying to get passed, like a mandate that pet store & puppy… Continue

Back to my blogging I go...

Hi all! I used to write regularly but when sadly the site was taken down I lost everything! Sniff* Ah well, I can have fun starting again!

Doggy snuggles............

Chris and I are in the midst of finishing off some long drawn out renovations. The dogs have been gems about the lack of space and mess. We have been very fortunate for that. On Saturday, we were busy putting on new hardware on the kitchen cabinets. Cody snuggled his bum onto his blankey in our bedroom and… Continue

Picking up Casper

Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon I accompanied Jacquie and a DRC volunteer to pick up Casper at his owner's home. He is a 2 1/2 yr old boisterous tall (approx 24in at shoulders) white 70lb ALD whose family decided the best thing for him would be to find him a home that could better meet his needs. He is a dominant personalitied boy and still needs to learn some people manners. We walked into the home with the Mom crying and holding him back on a leash and gentle leader collar while he barked at us… Continue

Suggestions on male vs female (doodles, that is!)

Hi, All,

I am new to the new DRC and am looking for a doodle to train as a pet therapy dog. My current therapy dog, Siena (golden retriever) is edging on 10 years old and would like to train a new friend to take her place in a year or two. We visit with abused and at-risk in the Tucson, AZ area.

Here's my question: Currently I have Siena and Barleycorn (male poodle/bichon/terrier/something mix). Both are extremely social and friendly. Siena is so laid back that she lets… Continue

DRC will be on CBS Early Show 6/9/10

DRC has been asked to participate in the CBS Early Show at 8:30am EST tomorrow! They will be celebrating the beauty of mixed breed dogs to coincide with the AKC allowing mixed breed dogs to participate in events such as agility but not beauty. They will have a small "beauty contest" of the local adoptable rescue dogs and the commentators will try to identify their breed mixes. Our very own PENELOPE and her foster mom, Patty Travaglino of CT will participate in the show!!! They will also post on… Continue

Doodle the Barbarian

This morning, my husband was talking to one of the cats as he fed her breakfast. "I'll close the door, sweet girl, to keep the barbarians at bay."

Yes, he was referring to this, uhhhh, barbarian :

It's Penelope, our foster girl. She is the furthest thing from a barbarian I've ever met :)

Paul and I were both cracking up as we eyed our kitchen, awash in three sweet, muppet-like doodles eating their breakfast, as… Continue
