MAGGIE

I wanted to introduce you all to Maggie.

She is our new rescue goldendoodle that is 9 months.

I wanted to say thanks to this site, and the Doodles in Need section was how I found her:  THANK YOU!!

We picked her up on Saturday in CT.  She was rescued from a high kill shelter out of TN.

She…

Miss Lucy update

Many thanks to Frannie, Deborah and everyone in their neighborhood for their tireless effort and success on ending Lucy's life as a fugitive.  Miss Luce lost 16 pounds during her time on the run. Lucy has been convalescing with us for 2 weeks now.  I am happy to say that she has gained 5 of those pounds back.  Most of week 1 was spent with her hiding behind our couch. I have been trying to make time to blog about her progress but life just seemed to get in the way.…

saving on grooming....

Yesterday, I took Ginger to a fund raiser for a local pet shelter, the Suncoast Animal League, which does so much for local homeless dogs. Ginger hates water, and they do a Paw Wash every month, I decided to check it out rather than spend the $75 at the groomer.

Ginger was one of the larger dogs there when I arrived, sniffing out the other dogs and nervously darting from one to the other. She draws the attention of everyone around her. Everywhere we go, people ask, "what kind of dog…

Poem

A friend of mine sent me this poem she said it reminded her of me.  I just needed to share it with all of you.

RESCUE POEM

Once I was a lonely dog,

Just looking for a home.

I had no place to go,

No one to call my own.

I wandered up and down the streets,

in rain in heat and snow.

I ate what ever I could find,

I was always on the go.

My skin would itch, my feet were sore,

My…

Suki our new foster

We have had our new foster Suki and labradoodle for about a week now and what a doll! She came to us from a owner who rescued her from a shelter..which they figure was from a puppy mill. Afraid of everything and anything. She did a WONDERFUL job in the short time that she had her, working with her to get her used to…

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO SAVE A HOMELESS DOG

Today we are priviledged to be able to help save "Harry" from euthanization in a southern VA animal shelter. Three days ago DRC was contacted by an independent rescuer in VA who regularly visits the high kill shelters and helps pull adoptable dogs for rescue groups. This shelter is at their maximum capacity and need to start euthanizing dogs for space. Harry was one of the dogs who would probably be the first to be put down. Harry is a happy 1 yr old chocolate labradoodle (Very Labby!) who…

Sophie's New Home

Sophie has been in her "furever" home for a week now and her new parents absolutely love her.  Her new home has been filled with family from the East Coast to celebrate her new mom's birthday.  Sophie has had a ball convincing people to give her belly rubs which is her absolute favorite activity.  Her mom is so happy with her and says that Sophie is the most intelligent and mellow dog she has ever known.  Sophie took her first trip to the vet and passed with flying colors except that she is to… Continue

Quarantine At Home

The Carson, California has become almost an immediate kill shelter since they are under rennovation and don't have the space to shelter animals. We are expecting an influx of Maltese rescue dogs, at least six in the next week or so.  We have not seen any Doodles on the carson Shelter website.

We are exceptionally fortunate in having a really large piece of property on which we erected a steel RV garage. Two of the rescue Maltese have kennel cough and are in a vet for…

New rescue

Yesterday I got a rescue from the Missouri flooding. She was being fostered in Illinois where they treated her mange and got her vaccinations. She was at a shelter for about 3 months where they cut tons of mats off of her. She has bare skin in many places I believe from the shelter. Her name is Ginger and she is very sweet. She used to be chained outside (at least that is what I understand) and at the fosters she was in a climate controlled kennel with their other dogs. Last night she sleep in… Continue

URGENT HELP REQUIRED FOR TEMPORARY HOME

My name is Georgina Hallam and I relocated to California with my 4 small children and 2 beautiful labradoodles, Forty and Maisie, in August last year. We all came over here for my husband's job which unfortunately he has recently lost.
As Australian citizens, we are not entitled to stay here in the USA unless we have a current work visa, which naturally comes with the job. This means that we have had to pack up…

SKYE'S NEW FAMILY

I just received this heartwarming email from the family that adopted Skye, our mini-doodle foster.  He has been with them since Monday, 7/11/11.  I have asked for a picture because I forgot my camera in that round-robin delivery of three dogs to Orange County and Los Angeles on Monday.

"I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much we are enjoying having Skye as a part of our family.  He is such an incredible and sweet natured dog and we are just in love.  He…

Chloe my new foster

This is Chloe my new foster. She is an owner re-home. Chloe has been at our house since Monday afternoon. She came from a friend of a very good friend of ours. I have "heard" about this other little LD for years. How she was a little version of Jordan....and she is! So very calm, very well behaved and loves to walk. She is doing better with the cats but she will chase them if we don't stop her, my cats really don't seem to mind her. She is maybe 10p and about the size of 14w…

UPDATE ON ZOE (WHO IS NOW CARLY)

We received this wonderful email from Paula who is Zoe's (now named Carly because the black poodle was already named Zoe) new mom.  Carly was placed with Paula yesterday afternoon...

"My two babies taking a well deserved nap on our bed.  Everything going great. pees and poops outside. Has no problem with all the stairs and sleeps through the night.  Our poodle is so…

We feel like empty nesters...

Last night we had a dozen dogs with us.  Our four maltese, four Maltese fosters along with our Goldendoodle, Holly, and three Doodle fosters.

It just happened that five dogs were placed today.  The placements had been negotiated over a span of time but, they were finalized today.  Sophie, Skye and Zoe our Doodle fosters went to their furever homes and two Maltese were also placed.

It's been a long time since we had only seven dogs in our home.  But don't feel…

Miss Viv reVivited

Hello everyone!

Not much to say, but wanted to do an update on Miss Viv.

Viv has been with us almost five months now and she has firmly established her place in all of our hearts. She has learned to get along with the neighbors and most of our friends, but is still very shy with new people. She has earned…

Food and saliva staining

I have a poodle/bichon, Lucy, and a mini golden doodle, Mac. They were eating Blue, but we transitioned them to taste of the wild when our foster arrived. We wanted to go grain free in case Lucy had sensitivities anyway.

Lucy already had mild salivary staining on her feet and just a little around her mouth, but it has gotten much worse since eating TOTW. A little research tells me that foods with tomato pomace and food coloring can contribute to saliva staining. TOTW has pomace. One… Continue

Update on Ginger and the Jannak's

Everything is going really well.  Ginger's new brother Petey was glad to see her.  Within 30 minutes the two of them were playing and chasing each other and their family had fun watching.

It didn't take Ginger long to discover the door to go inside.  She happily went in and found her spot.  She is quickly learning the house rules and there is always lots of love and kisses to be found.

Here are a few quotes from Anna's email

"The boys are so happy to have a new…

Callie (Ginger) Went Home Today

Callie came into our home a scared and untrusting girl.  Today Callie walked out the door a loving, trusting, confident girl.  When the Jannak's arrived Callie went right up to them wiggling and wagging her tail.  It was like she knew them all her life.  Callie is going to be a Daddy's girl, her new Mom said.  She just couldn't get enough of her new family.  Callie also got a new name along with her family, Ginger.

Ginger, I'm so proud of you.  You will always have a special place in…
