I am so thrilled that we waited for a dog. We have been looking, researching and planning for 2 years maybe 3. There were many times we found one we thought could be our dog, but there was always something that didn't work out. I am so glad things worked out for us with this beautiful doodle! It was meant to be!
He loves walks at the park and is so good - I have had several people ask me where I go for obedience school. They look at me in amazement when I say - we haven't… Continue

Seems like she's been here for much longer. She's the best doggie ever! She loves everybody! Still a little skittish on walks, seem afraid of every little noise, but she's getting better every day! She does absolutely nothing wrong! (no chewing, accidents, counter surfing, nothing) She watches the other dogs and mimics them. We had a few people over to meet and greet Lulu and she was the star of the evening. I warned everyone that she was shy, a little skittish, etc. and she proved me wrong,… Continue

I'm already thinking about my next vacation and taking the doggies with us. It's not too hard to find pet friendly places these days - but does anyone have recommendations? Any referrals to places that were awesome? for both the humans and the dogs? We *love* the beach!

We arrived home from our 8 hour drive around 8 pm tonight. Somer was wonderful in the car. She layed or sat quietly, and was very well behaved at all of our pit stops. She has been snooping around the house and playing with everything she can get her mouth on. We removed her stiches and her incision looks great. The kids are in LOVE with her. Mowgli, not so much. He seems a little confused especially since she is so boisterous and doesn't seem to understand his signals yet. We are all very… Continue

Thanks to Doodle Rescue Collective, Inc., we have Gladwyn home! From MI to OH to IL - it's been a long trip, but he is home! Thank you to all his helpers and especially to his foster family and to Karen here in the IL area! Karen, we will meet you soon!
We have decided to name him Finley Gladwyn! Finley means fair-haired soldier (warrior) in Gaelic and we love the history of his Gladwyn name meaning happy friend!
Our family has fallen in love… Continue

It's been one month since we got Hilda. She now feels like she's been part of our family for ages... not just one month.... She is adapting very well to our lifestyle. She knows when I go to work, when the girls are coming home, when everyone gets home, etc. She listens well and learns really quickly.
I think the chewing problem is curtailed. We are in the process of checking this, so far she has been passing with flying colors. We are taking this a little slow as we don't want to… Continue

Gus nuzzles his new boy. I think they are happy together!

One week ago today Gus left for his new home. I tried to blog about it then, but words just weren’t there; only an emptiness inside me and a quietness in our home. We were amazed at how much of a presence Gus was in our family. But mixed with our loss was a joy to have met Gus’s new family and to be able to feel so good about where he is going.
He has a ten-year old boy to play with and learn with. Every boy should have a dog, and Gus was the kind of dog that needed a boy. They…

Even though Latte is battling the dreaded kennel cough she has settled into our home very well. She has not had one potty accident - even when she is home for eight hours while we are at work/school. Her leash skills are truly amazing even with kids running up to pet her. She has discovered a fondness for sleeping close to me - as close as possible...Clifford doesn't like that very much but he is tolerating the invasion and they often sleep next to each other, competing to see who can get… Continue

I have recently become a new member of DRC after being a member of DoodleKisses and reading about all the doodles in need and the angels at DRC who help to rescue them. I have on more than one occasion been brought to tears both by stories of the horrible conditions of some to the rescues as well as the happy stories that happen because of both DRC and the members of Doodlekisses. Where I live there is presently not a need for doodle rescue but with more doodles appearing everyday I fear… Continue

It has been a full week since Scottie has been fostered with us. He doesn’t have the self-confidence of his big brother Harvey, but he has come a long way in a week. Amazingly, he has had only 1 accident in the house and that was the morning after he arrived. He hadn’t figured out the stair-thingy yet and was afraid to go down the stairs. But fear of the stairs is… Continue

It SHOCKS me to realize that I've only been fostering this sweet boy for a week, because he has made SO much progress...progress that I didn't expect to see for several weeks.
Harvey now prances. Words fail me when I see him trotting alongside Callie and they both have their heads and tails raised high, gazing confidently about. He's letting down his guard enough to be a little goofy sometimes. He completely eviscerated a stuffed toy - he was so proud you would have thought… Continue

Hi all - Harvey is coming right along and I'll write a longer update this week. Mostly, I just wanted y'all to see how cute he is! He has an incredibly handsome face and is just brimming with sweetness. He's still scared of some things, but is making great progress! He's getting groomed tomorrow, so I'll post new pictures after that!…

As the fifth day with Latte begins I find myself thinking about everything she has been through lately. The big girl (78 pounds) found herself abandoned and taken to a shelter, separated from her randy friend Ralph, relocated to a new state with people she'd never seen and a dog she didn't know, taken to the vet to be spayed...for the second time (I am so glad the vet noticed the scar!) and back to her new home to figure out what the routine is.
Through all of that Latte has been a… Continue

I welcomed Rocco to my home yesterday. What a sweetie...he is going to make someone the BEST dog ever. I have had Labs all my life; and Rocco takes the cake! Sweet, Teddy Bear dog. Well Behaved, too. He will need some room. He is big; but loves my tiny house!

Friday pm - Latte (named for her coloring) was dropped off at the county animal shelter in Mansfield, Ohio along with her friend Ralph. DRC tagged the duo and Adrianne set about finding a foster home or two. Since they seemed okay separated, Sue Cooper volunteered to foster Ralph and I drove down to pick up Latte (formerly called Roxanne). Latte wasn't very sure of leaving the friends she'd met at the shelter but was a brave doodle… Continue

Yep, Scottie too, was part of Operation Three Caballeros. He is such a skinny, frightened boy but he is slowly coming out of his shell. Wednesday evening when we got home from the doodle train excursion Scottie wasn’t too sure about his new… Continue

I had my first rescue transport today. What fun. Bear started his day at a shelter in Christiansburg. He got a ride to Roanoke and then another ride to Lexington. That's where I picked him up. He as so cute!! He was a little smelly and in desperate need of a haircut - but his "doodleness" still shined through!! I got him out of the driver's car and let him "take care of business". Then he had a little drink and it was off to Harrisonburg to meet his foster mom, Diane. I had covered the back of… Continue

Sometimes it's good to hear the wonderful things we are all doing as a group and this is one of those stories. Last Thursday we were contacted by the rescue coordinator of a large city animal control facility in North Carolina. They had three young male doodles who were relinquished by a puppy mill and they needed rehabilitation to help them recover from the trauma of the puppy mill in which they had been born and raised. They need socialization to people and life outside the mill. They need… Continue

It's been a different week. Gus seems more adjusted than before. When we took him with us to Mater's obedience and agility classes he was relaxed and dealt better with the other dogs. (He still doesn't seem to like Chief for some unknown reason; Chief is so placid and friendly like most Golden Retrievers.) But Gus was more relaxed and so I was less stressed too.
He's been good most of the time, but his counter surfing is as bad as ever. Friday Tom went to the grocery for a few things… Continue
