Figaro had a great vet check and is ready for his forever home!

Well, after 2 1/2 long weeks with the dreaded cone on, Figaro has finally been released from wearing the cone!  The vet removed most of the stitches from his lower eyelids other than the ones that had to be replaced after he broke them scratching around the cone.  He is SOOOOO happy without the cone!  He spent the first 5 minutes running around the house like a crazy dog!  Probably doggie for "jumping for joy".   HIs eyes look AMAZING!…

Is THAT a Doodle?!...Yep, that's Matilda (Mattie for short).

I've never seen a Doodle that looks like Mattie before.  My kids say that she looks like cookies and cream ice cream...and she does!

Poor girl was abandonned at my vet clinic, tied to the bench out front for our staff to find.  The Dr. examined her and said that she is about 9 months old and healthy.  She is a bit under-weight for…

Appreciating the DRC and being given the opportunity to help!

Ten hours, five emails and a phone call. That has been the first step in saving a doodle's life. Here is the chain of events...

12:30 am(ish) Jacquie gets an email from Michelle with a petfinder link.

1 am(ish): Jacquie sends an email out to me, Kristen, and Nina, asking one of us to follow up in the morning.

6 am(ish): I look at the email and link, and email out that I'll call the shelter

10 am(ish) After impatiently waiting for the shelter to open, I call and…

Slight set-back for Figaro, who should have been named "Houdini"

Figaro was 7 days into the dreaded 10 days with the e-collar when he managed to do the impossible!  He had already figure out how to move the collar down low enough to rub his itching, healing eyes on things, but on Sunday evening he managed to get his hind foot into the collar and scratched the incision on the right eye so hard he broke open 2 of the stitches.

A trip to the vet on Monday (yesterday) confirmed the worst... and then the really bad news....  The two stitches he got open…

Eli is doing great, there is something to be said for a Doodle who can lay in your lap and who also has the fleece coat. Brian keeps telling him your so soft, yes you are.…

Frisco is headed to Bama!

Frisco has been apart of our family since the beginning of October. Today was so bittersweet for my family. It stsrted last night when both my kiddos wanted to snuggle with hime for his last night here. Then all morning, they couldn't keep their hands off of him.

As soon as Doug walked in the front door, Frisco was all over him smothering him with kisses! I knew this was a perfect match! He is beginning his 10 hour drive from Texas to Alabama and will be home sweet home soon. I am so…

Figaro is healing nicely!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and suggestions for making the taking of antibiotics easier!  I am so happy I had 2 days off following his eye surgery.  Tomorrow will be the first time he will be home alone for more than 1/2 hour.  He will have to negotiate the doggie door by himself for 4 hours.  We just purchased a smaller cone, which should help some.  The larger cone is the one he was given when he was "hairy", before his shave down.  Now that is neck is so much smaller, the vet…

Figaro's eyelid surgery went very well

Figaro is back home after having both his eyelids fixed. He did very well with the surgery and now comes the hard part... wearing the cone for the next 10 days!

His eyelids are still swollen from both the chronic irritation and the surgery. It will take a few days for that to go down. The right eye…

Figaro is having his eyelid surgery tomorrow

Our wonderful foster doodle, Figaro, is having his eyelid surgery on both eyes to correct his eyelids which roll in. This is called "entropian" and it causes constant irritation of the eyes... duh... there is constantly hair in your eyes! Even with his watery and red eyes, he is just a great dog! He has worked his way into our hearts so quickly!…

Week 1 with Eli

It has been a week with Eli. All I can say is he is such a sweet heart! He went to the Vet on Wednesday. His weight was up from 33p (on Monday) to 37p. I went through some stuff to get him wormed. The 1st sample I brought in came up clean. I could see the Tape worms so I knew he had them. Friday, I brought in another sample, I made sure there were worms in that sample....CAME up clean! I told the Tech, not possible I brought a sample that had worms in it! I know what Tape worms look like. He…

Angus's Forever Home

Angus has just left for his trip to Norfolk VA with his forever new mom, Donna. While I'm sad and a bit teary to say goodbye, Angus was ready to go as long as there was a rawhide or antler involved in the transfer, too. Angus will have a new fur brother Rocco, a Bichon/Poodle mix and a new sister, 8 year old Rylee who is dying to meet him. Rylee even picked out matching red sweaters for her two "boys" We'll see if one is big enough for the Angus-boy. I heard that maybe his new name may be "Gus"… Continue

Joshua - The Amazing Foster Doodle

Well, I can't say enough good things about this sweet dog. As our first foster, I was prepared for any number of issues or challenges. Joshua has to be the easiest foster dog ever! Just a one yr old, 50 lb. ball of love.

He's been with us for one week, since we got him from Marci Salmon. (please refer to her post for additional info.) In that time, he has made friends with our labradoodle, Nemo, and become devoted to me and my husband. He follows us around most of the time, except…

Tommy's Fabulous New Life

Everyone has been so wonderful wishing Tommy well and has been so happy to see that he has been adopted so I wanted to let all know about his new family.

Tommy had a rough start, left in a shelter for unknown reasons by his family. He was a stinky, matted mess when I picked him up and was a bit of a wild thing. I couldn't even walk him on a leash. An investment in a Gentle Leader solved that problem right away. Then he had a hard time healing up from his neutering and spend 3…

Cash's Blog#2 - Cash is full of surprises!

Cash is beginning to bloom! And what surprises he has been for us!! He is still bonded to me more than anyone else in the family. Mater is taking Tom’s attitude of “I loved one foster and it was sad when he left so I’m going to try to not let myself get attached like that again!” But with a guy as gentle and sweet as…

Little Dood, Finley, Finnegan (Finn) ... is recovering nicely

Little dood is recovering this morning from his traumatic snipping yesterday at the vet. He seemed to know something was up yesterday morning when I took him out to my mom's car; she was taking him since I had to work. He didn't want to get in her car and then when they got to the building he didn't want to get out of it. When we picked him up last night he was still woozy and unsteady on his feet but he walked along glued to my side, not really sure what was going on. We got him home and… Continue
