We picked up Skye tonight.  He is an 11-month old 32-pound mini-doodle.  His owner relinquished him because he was too rough playing with her smaller dog.

Skye got along great with all the doodles: Holly, Sophie and Zoe.  They ran all over the yard until all of the doodles were worn out.  The Maltese didn't pay Skye any attention, probably because he looks like a small Holly. He is a darling boy.

More news and pictures tomorrow. Light was failing for this shot...

I took Skye to the evening car show called "Cruisin' Grand" in Escondido, CA, yesterday.  I like to take rescue dogs there because I can get a good idea of their temperament.  The show is several city blocks long with engines roaring, several loud bands playing and thousands of people.

I was very proud of Skye.  He acted like I had been taking him there for years.  he was calm and firendly with all the people who just gushed over him and wanted to pet him.  Neither the crowds nor the loud noises fazed him and he interacted just great with the hoards of kids who just thought he was the cutest dog in the world.

Skye is a really neat little boy who will fit in well with any family, especially a family with well behaved children.

PERFECT GENTLEMAN...

We brought Skye to our daughter's house for a Father's Day dinner last night.  We also brought, Dovie, one of our Maltese who is our daughter's favorite.  Holly hopped into the car would not get out so we brought her too.  Our daughter's house is Holly's favorite trip because she gets to see our daughter's Labrador who is her favorite friend in the whole world. We left Sophie and the puppy home with the rest of the Maltese.

Skye behaved himself like an absolute gentleman the whole time at the gathering.  There were ten people, three Maltese, Holly and Skye plus the Labrador in a rather small house.  Everyone was surprised that Skye was so young because he was so well behaved.  In fact, he was the hit of the party.  he was very friendly with everyone but, not a pest even when fish and hamburgers were served.  Everyone thought he was a handsome boy and he really is.

Apparently his previous owner considered him to rough with their small dog but, Skye exhibits no such behavior at our house.  Right now he is wrestling with Zoe and our five-pound male Maltese and they are playing very well together.  I suspect that the previous owners may not have been very dog savvy.  We naturally monitor the dog's play to ensure it is appropriate but, just like when kids rough house, we allow they to play.

I would bring Skye outside to our daughter's yard about every hour and he would pee.  We can almost say with certainty that he is well housetrained.  He sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom all night with no problem.  This morning I brought him up on the bed with Holly and four Maltese and he was very good. We don't normally allow foster dogs onto our furniture, unless invited.  Not that we mind, but, there are people who don't want dogs on their furniture and we don't want to get our fosters in the habit of hopping up on a couch or a bed at random and therefore set them up for failure in their "furever" home.

Every morning Judy gives out treats as she pours her cup of coffee.  This is a morning routine for the dogs.  They all gather around her in the kitchen (this morning it was four doodles and seven Maltese) and she gives each one two pieces of cut-up Dick Van Patten roll.  We can tell a lot about dog's behavior during this routine. Skye is absolutely well behaved and sits for his treats (as do Holly and Sophie).  He takes the treat from Judy's hand gently and doesn't try to get any one else's treat.

All in all, I would give Skye a five star doggie rating.  He seems to be (after the 36 hours he has been with us) the perfect smaller sized Doodle.

It looks like it is raining doodles at your house!  Thank you for finding space for another foster.

I just noticed, the program is squeezing the sides of the image.  I will do smaller pictures in the future to prevent that.

Skye is handsome after his grooming.  Judy doesn't groom Holly because at 60 pounds, Holly is too much work.  However, Skye needed to be groomed to show his eyes.  He was wonderfully cooperative during the grooming, even when Judy cut his toe nails...

Yes, Skye has the gold eyelashes as does our Holly.  Here are the first couple of pictures after Judy groomed him.  I am waiting for later in the day when the sun is not so harsh to shoot a few more.  The sun causes his eyebrows to cast shadows over his eyes.

What a great home you're providing for dogs!   I imagine they consider it a resort.  :)

Skye's coloring and coat are very much like my Mac's. Except for the weight difference (Mac is 23 lbs), they look like sibs. I love the gold tips on the ears and tail.  Does Skye have gold/copper eyelashes?  Mac's are wispy, long and the most beautiful color, framing his big brown eyes.
