I picked up Duke from his foster, Joe Visnyak, on Friday afternoon and we drove straight home so he could become acclimated without too many distractions.  We took several walks and spent a few hours at Indian Boundry Park.  He slept at the foot of my bed (on my bed by my feet) and made it through the night without incident.  Early Saturday we rollerbladed along the N Shore Channel Trail (Chicago River) and then visited my parents’ house where he played and lounged in their back yard.  In the afternoon he visited his new groomer.  Grooming was a little traumatic, however, I stayed with him and he got through it just fine.  Sunday we ventured to Montrose Dog Beach … what a terrific dog park!  He was skittish of the water at first and then began to bounce and prance through the shallows.  Later we visited a block party, where he was the center of attention and tolerated lots of children fawning over him.  By popular demand Duke has been renamed Charlie.

We just got back from his visit to his new Veterinarian, Dr. Baukert at Riser Animal Hospital on Touhy in Skokie.  He was chipped for identification and had a complete physical exam.  He received a clean bill of health as well as lot’s of compliments.

Duke accompanies me to my office where he is a very hard worker.  Don't worry, we will get him in the Union as soon as he is eligible!

My thanks to everyone who made this possible!

OMD!!  I LOVE that face of Charlie's.  He's adorable.  Sounds like you love him as much as he loves you and his new life.  KUDOS to you both!!  As for the Union?  I'll vouch for him too.

This blog makes my heart sing! I have felt so bad for Duke ever since I first heard his story; I am so glad that he is finally home! It sounds like he is going to have a wonderful life despite his rough start!

Small world: As a very young child in West Rogers Park, I loved Indian Boundary Park. There used to be a very small zoo there! And Riser Animal Hospital was where my mom took our childhood pets and where I took my first dog as an adult!

Greg you have no idea how happy we are for Duke! He had a rough start in life and like so many of the doodles in our program, ended up in the wrong situation. So ecstatically happy that he has found his "furever" home! Pictures! We want pictures!...lol
